approved Alberta PNP, Visa/Work Permit expiring

my cousins alberta pnp was already approved and he has already applied for PR last september of 2009.  His work visa and work permit will expire on April of 2010...
Questions:

1.  shall he tell his employer that he needs to extend his lmo and work permit?
2.  what are the possible scenarios that he might end up doing, please help...

 my brother is with the same case. his employer applied for new LMO and he applied for his visa extension. His PR application (uder Alberta PNP) was received by CIC last February 2009, they are already done with medicals and had already paid ROLF but still no passport request.

better be on the safe side, since he cannot be out-of-status while waiting for PR result.
