Applying for visitor visa while work permit is in process

Hi,

I have applied for work permit in US a while ago and still waiting for it.

I need to enter Canada to find a place to live for my family (assuming I'll get the work permit). I am thinking about applying for Visitor Visa.

My questions are:

1. Is it possible to apply for Visitor Visa while work permit is in process?
2. Does applying for Visitor Visa affect the work permit application process?
