Applying for PR and then goes to study in Canada: a good idea or no?

Hi guys,

I'm curious about some things, and I was wondering if you can give me your opinions?

I'm Canadian, and my girlfriend (whom I will eventually marry) lives in Brazil.

1. Is it a red flag for the CIC if I marry her and then sponsor her right away (i.e: within 1 month or 2)? Would that make it seem like we rush things? Or is it better to wait for a long time (i.e: 6 months) before I sponsor her?
Our relationship is genuine, but I want to make sure we don't do things that could cause the CIC to misunderstand our intentions.

2. Once we have submitted the aponsorship and permanent residence applications, is it a good idea for her to come visit me in Canada as a visitor? Does her chance of getting the visitor visa become lower?

3. She also plans to study here, so what if we do these (all will be after our marriage of course):

a. Submit our sponsorship and permanent resident apps to the CIC
b. She applies for a student visa
c. She goes to study in Canada as an international student, and lives with me, all while waiting for her to get her permanent residence.

Anything wrong with the above plan?

Hmmm, speaking of which.....when we submit our apps, she will still be in Brazil, which means it's an outland application. But if she goes to study here before she gets her permanent residence, would the CIC start treating her PR application as inland?

1. No, if you love her, you want her to move to Canada asap.  That's very understandable.  They would maybe think it was strange if you didn't sponsor her right away :)

2. Her chance of visitor visa becomes very small if she is married to a Canadian because they will think she wants to overstay.

3. Her chances of a student visa also become smaller with marriage since they will think she wants to overstay. 

If she was already in Canada on some kind of visa when you file your application, you would have the choice to apply inland but if you choose to apply outland and use the outland forms, they will not treat it as an inland application.

If she was already in Canada on some kind of visa when you file your application, you would have the choice to apply inland but if you choose to apply outland and use the outland forms, they will not treat it as an inland application.

So you're saying that if at the beginning the application was outland (because she applied from abroad), and then she somehow manages to study here, the application won't change into an inland right?

Especially with a PR application in process they won't allow her in.  Very difficult depending on the country.

Hmm I see.....I don't know their logic behind that, but to me it sounds very, very ironic.....!!! If in the end (hopefully!!) they will give her the PR anyway, I see no reason why they shouldn't grant her the tourist visa. Plus, I think it rather hurts that they would just assume she would not leave Canada....I mean, not all of us are evils right? =)

Also, how would they know that she's applying for PR? Must she indicate this in her temporary visa application?

Also Boncuk, you got your PR within 3 months, correct? That is ultra fast....how is that possible?

Even if she didn't include this in her application for a TRV it would show up in the system.

We got our passport requested very fast but unfortunately with our office they are holding the passport for background checks to be cleared and then stamped so we have no idea when we will get it back.  They mention in the passport request email "a few months" So who knows :)

If she's applied for PR and you have been approved as her sponsor, that part of it takes about 2 months, she could try applying for a visit visa and state that she will leave at the end of her visit.  Some people have been approved to do that.  Once you have been approved as a sponsor, immigration might think it less likely that she will overstay because she has a good chance of getting her PR plus if they call her for an interview in Brazil, she would obviously have to leave Canada to go there.

If you apply outland, your application stays outland, even if she visits you.  Even if she got the student visa first, came to Canada and you then got married, you could still apply outland if you wanted to.
