Hi,

While I was getting my Off-Campus Work Permit replaced with a Post-Grad Work Permit, I forgot to renew my SIN. I was working full-time throughout the whole time. It was about a month after my SIN had expired that I noticed its expiry date. I had a valid Work Permit during my the whole time that I was employed, out of which for about a month, I had an expired SIN. It has been about 10 months since all this happened. Now I am preparing to apply for Immigration through CEC and I was wondering if the one month that I worked with an expired SIN will cause any problems in my immigration.

What am I supposed to do? All of my papers were in order and I had valid work permit(s) all this time (one month out of which I was unknowingly working on an expired SIN, but with a valid Work Permit).

Regards.

Not a problem - assuming you got your new SIN, and your employer is doing things correctly, they applied your new SIN retroactively to the correct date.  If you need more peace of mind, just check with your employer (whoever does payroll).

BTW - if that happened 10 months ago, you would have done your taxes since then.  If you have good records of what you earned in 2009, just check your T4s and make sure they are correct.

Yup, I renewed my SIN (the new expiry matches my Post-Grad WP's expiry), gave it to my employer, and I have done taxes since. No one came back to me with anything regarding the SIN or Work Permit. T4s look just like the previous ones (my SIN hasn't changed, it is the same, it was in an expired state for a month).

*phew* Thanks for all the info!
