applying as a skill worker

Wonder if applying as a skill worker and haven't studied the same career i am working now would affect my application? I studied cuisine and working actually as a general manager in a restaurant, also would like to know if my cuisine career would work since i read somewhere in cic website that it has to be a 3 years career and i got my cuisene diploma in 2 year..need some advice thanks!
