Hi everyone,

Re: Family Class Immigration - applying within Canada
currently living in Hong Kong

I have several questions regarding immigrating to Canada that I was unable to find through the website.  Please help to answer my questions:

(1) I am planning go to Canada with my husband in May.  Since I will go there as a visitor, so I already bought a return ticket for coming back to HK.  Here is a question, if my husband apply me a PR in Canada, is that means I can't leave Canada until the PR is approved?  What about if the PR take more than half an year to go through and my HK passport can only let me stay in Canada for 3 months?

(2) Since my situation is flying back to Canada with my husband and apply my PR there.  Trust that it should be ok to tell the custom officer that I am going to apply PR in Canada and show them that I my marriage certificate in case.  Am I right?

Cheers,
Jen

You need the PR Visa to stay in Canada permanently.  The immigration people will not let you into the country to stay permanently unless you already have it.  They don't let you into the country to apply for it.
