Hi all,

I am an outland applicant living in Canada, waiting for my passport to arrive.

Am I able to apply for a SIN with my visa in passport & copr? Or do I need to formally "land".

I will be able to drive to the border in a few weeks but I was hoping to get the ball rolling before then.

Thanks.

Hello

I'm not sure if you can apply or not. But I do know when you go in to the Government office to get a SIN number they issue you one right away the only thing you have to wait for is the actual card they send you.

You need to be a landed permanent resident in order to have a SIN issued.

You need to land, as they used the completed signed COPR and your visa to prove you became a permenent resident. Having an unsed COPR and visa, means you are not a PR yet.
