Hi guys,

My partner and I applied for the spousal sponsorship for PR in August from within Canada ( I am from NZ ) and we have still not heard anything on it. I talked to a lady a couple of months ago who sent me a letter stating I was allowed to continue to work and to keep my current social insurance number until the result of our application is made.

I have tried to check online with my client I.D etc and it says there is no information. I have called the hotline about 500 times and never get through.

Shouldn't I of heard something by now?

We have checked the tracking of the item and it got to the vegreville office within a week of sending it.... Sad

Inland first stage approval is taking around 9 months.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

They are working on applications received in May 2010 now, so you still have a ways to go.

Processing times are here

Inland is at the bottom of the page.

The helpline number is available, just got off the phone from talking to them.

What number are you calling?

The times are not set in concrete.

If you leave Canada with an inland app' in progress and you cannot get back into Canada, your application will be lost.

From Leons post here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-t46995.0.html;msg344291#msg344291

Inland has the downside that it's generally not advised that your spouse travels while you are waiting for your processing because it is a requirement of inland that they reside in Canada and if they are denied entry at the border for some reason, your application is gone.  If an interview is required for inland, you may also have to wait a long time for it.  The inland application would be sent to Vegreville and if all goes well, you would get a first stage approval, usually in 6 to 8 months.

And I am sorry to say that it's taking more than 9 months now, it's been lore like 10 months.
Unfortunately you should expect an increase in the timeline in the next couple of weeks/months, CPC-V has been pretty busy taking care of applications of those refugees in Vancouver. Last month the timeline slowed down a lot.

I applied in May, and I am not expecting to hear anything anytime soon.

Others have no doubt travelled and got back in, but the question is "is it worth the risk"?

I don't' believe calling and asking will make a difference; it's at the discretion of the IO if you are able to reenter Canada.  As Baloo mentioned, it's really not worth the risk.

One more question....

I have a Visitors Visa, does this mean I can leave and re-renter Canada at will?

How do I tell?

It says on it

"Temporary resident status maintained as per R183(6)"

It is valid for over one year, so I guess multiple entry?

It actually sounds like a visitor record (mine says exactly the same thing). If you read slightly below it, you'll see it says THIS DOES NOT AUTHORIZE RE-ENTRY.

Where are you from? Are you from a visa-exempt country?
