Thanks guys! Just a bit more info: I've also been emailing with a woman who had a similar timeline as me - started processing in Pretoria in early August and had a similar timeline on her additional document request... and she got the passport request yesterday too! So seems like Pretoria is definitely pumping away.... J - you definitely have a little wait yet but Perfect - you should be hearing soon! J - congrats on the baby and good luck!! That will definitely be a good distraction for the last part of the wait

Got the call this morning that the passport is ready for collection! (they received it last Monday so one week) We'll try to organize DHL to collect it tomorrow and should have it back in our eager hands by Wed or Thurs!!
I don't think I will really feel like it's over until I see the visa and the date is correct etc... have read too many horror stories on this forum!
Still... very exiting! Hope to hear news from you soon, Perfect! My whole process from beginning to end will come to almost exactly 6 months so you should be up soon!

Oh wow you must be really excited, at least that will definitely take your mind off this immigration stuff. I havent heard anything from them yet, I was goin to suggest that my hubby does them anyways just to save time, but I guess its better to wait for instructions. I wrote them an email about 3-4 weeks ago and no response yet...sigh!

Hi folks
I hope you don't me barging in on this thread. I'm about to submit my application through Pretoria. I'm Canadian, the kids are Canadian through me and we are just waiting on the Proof Of Citizenship cards.
However I need to submit the Sponsorship forms and PR Application for my Wife. The processing times for Pretoria seem to have jumped from 9 – 18 months yet you guys seem to be getting processed much faster than that.
I'm toying with the idea of flying the whole family to Canada and applying inland if it means waiting around that long. Does 18 months include interviews, requests for additional documents, etc.?
Surely my case would be straight forward? Or is this a foolish assumption?

Hi Fastnorky,
Welcome to the thread...well, from what Ive seen processing times are still the same. The 18 months probably reflects that all family applications with and without complications are processed within that time frame. If your case is straightforward and no extra documents required, most likely it will take anywhere from 3 -6 months. The Pretoria website says it processes routine family app within 6 months so your best bet would be out land.
Just make sure that you double check the checklist making sure you've included everything and you'll be fine
Good luck

Hi Fastnorky
I've just finished my application process and it took us 7 months total (6 months with Pretoria). We are common-law and my partner had three african countries he needed background checks for and we had to wait through an additional document request. So 7 months is not a fastest case scenario at all but I'm sure it's also not a slowest case either.
18 months is probably for someone who's not south african (because apparently that does take longer), has to get several background checks done for countries that are not super cooperative, maybe has a military background that needs investigating, recieves one or two additional document requests, who has an interview, and then has to get their medical re-done because it's expired.
We don't know your background but unless those apply to your wife, I wouldn't think it would take that long. On the other hand, it would definitely take that long inland.
Just don't let the fact that your case is straight forward effect how seriously you take competing the application. Make sure you submit tons of evidence and triple check every form. And if there aren't any other complicating factors, there's no reason your application would take longer than mine.
Oh, and don't expect much communication out of Pretoria. They're terrible for that!

I am about to mail in my husbands application to Pretoria, and he is a Malawian resident. Does anyone know of people rejected from that office and why? And, I've been waiting two months for my notice of tax assessment but it hasn't come in so will it be a big deal to file it without one? I"m a student and all my income is non-taxable anyways....
