Dear Pinakini,
I am new to this forum. I came to India to submit our passports. My husband is also on h1b visa in US. I submitted our passports on 13th jan 2012 and medicals received line since 23rd jan 2012. No updates since. I need to get back to US by April 1st week. When can I expect our passports back? We are worried. Senior forum members too plz suggest.

I would recommend to check with our BABA on this forum. Canadestin baba.. he is very good at predictions. I have already requested him to do the same for me.

While going through the first link.. SSAT.. I found that this is for private schools. Do you want to join your kids in private schools? The reason I ask that question is.. I dont know of any one here who sends their kids for private schools. All the friends that I have sends their kids to Government schools here.

I also want to let you know that Government schools here has a very high standard as well. Normally, people who dont know about govt schools here, they tend to compare with govt schools in India.. but, thats not the case. These are very good ones. So, I dont think SSAT is required if you want to join your kids in Govt schools. Keep me posted on what do you think. Mean while, i will still confirm with people and let you know.

Hi Nokia,

I assume your kids will be starting grade 8 and 11 in september 2012?

Grade 8 is a part of the elementary schools here in PEEL (Mississauga and Brampton) . The 8th grader will attend one of the senior public schools as they are called here.

Grade 9-12 is high school. Some of the good and reputed high schools in Mississauga that i know of are are John Fraser secondary school, Rick Hansen SS, Streetsville SS and Stepehen Louis SS.  

If you look for houses in the boundries of these high schools - your 8th grader will go to one of the senior public schools in the same boundries...and i think all of those schools are pretty good. Your 8th grader will also have an option of applying for an IB school for grade 9. The IB admission process involves a test and only selected candidates get in as the seats are limited. There are 4 schools in PEEL offering IB. However, your 11th grader will not have an option to persue IB unless he is already studying in an IB school in India.

Thats correct Satya...SSAT is for private school admissions. Kids do not have to give any test for admission to public schools. And Nokia, the second link you posted is a private school - so if you are looking at admission to private schools yur kids will have to take the SSAT or any other test as stipulated by the private school.

               i was having toefl exam on 5th feb so i asked new delhi visa office that can i get passports by that date on 7 jan but they replied on 24 feb that your email is tranferred to appropriate section.office will contact u widin 5 working days but they never contacted .is it harmful for my case.plz reply

Do not worry, it is not harmful for ur case... In case u do not need PP any more, send an e-mail specifying the same....

It is very difficult to say which school is the best for Kindergarten. For Kindergarten - the child starts  JK at age 4 and SK at age 5. Upto this year K in PEEL was a 2.5 hr program. Starting sept 2012 most  schools in PEEL will be offering full day K. You can check the schools which will offer full day K on the PEEL website

You can check the EQAO scores of all elementary schools in PEEL. EQAO is a test which grade 3 students take and the scores of each school are publicly available. You can see which school has the best scores and decide accordingly. Pls note however, that these scores change each year and the school which might have done well one year may not do that well next year. But most good schools should be consistent in their results. From grade 1 - you have an option to put your child in french immersion.

In order to add dependants to my application do i need to fill in the same version of the forms that i used when i applied in 2011....or to add my dependants i have to fill in the new Generic IM 0008 form that is now required to be validated....

Nokia - I would also add Glen Forest SS and Goron Graydon SS to the list of good high schools in Mississauga. These schools also offer the regional programs. Glen Forest offers IB and Gordon Graydon offers IBT.
