On the second suggestion... You need to have only one year experience in the 29 occupations, other work experience can be in NOC O, A or B ... please carefully read the guide in cic web

There was a thread a few months ago, when a forumer had posted that his/her application was rejected due to insufficient points; and the reason was that the points awarded on Work Experience need to be related to the demand occupation.  That forumer was a pre-26 June 2010 applicant, who had more than 4 years of experience but only 1 from the demand occupation.  Could not find that post.  Think the header was something like "VO makes own rules".  The topic was, I believe, widely debated.

Cheers.

Eventhough the thread you gave us had an ubrupt ending.. please do not forget the headline.. VO makes its own rules and Visa officer has his discretion.
But mostly no officer likes to answer her/his deeds before a court or likes to repeatedly make an error.
So what Huh
Challenge her/him (do not forget the polite and gentle words)
Take the maximum juice out of them,
slowly that will lead you get some points to challenge them.
Please  do not use word "appeal" at initial letter,  :)reserve those words so that you may use one more chance for appealing!!

Well I beg to defer.  The granting of points with regards to the six selection factors should not be based on discretion.  Other issues perhaps (e.g. level of language competency, etc), but not the six factors.

Which would mean that points are only allocated for Work Experience that fall within the 29 demand occupation, and nothing for the others.

hello,
So sorry to hear your news dibs  Sad. I urge you to claim for the reimbursement of consultation fee from that stupid, big headed CONsultant  Angry Angry

regards,
Dr.Hasib

Long Story short ....
Its a case of failed ER  at the VO ...   I had a total of 4.5 yrs exp .. more than  2 yrs as a Restaurant Manager (NOC 0631) and 2 as a  Food Service Supervisor(NOC 6212) .. but my consultant wrongly gave the NOC code as 0631 for both my jobs   ..

my application was assessed based on 0631   for both my jobs . The Reference letter that I submitted which relates to 6212 was even assessed based on 0631 ..  My consultant never cared to put in the correct NOC code of 6212 where I worked as a supervisor, instead he gave the code there as 0631 .... and the application was rejected stating that employment letter  do not indicate  you performed the actions  described in the lead statement for NOC code 0631 (Restaurant and food service managers) for the job i did as a supervisor .  I was in fact awarded 17 points for the job that I did as Restaurant manager  .

The explanation above is vague .. will post the exact details and wordings of the rejection letter tomorrow..

The consultant is obviously an idiot.  While his/her intent may have been to show that Dibs have more than 4 years experience, so as to obtain the maximum 21 points, he/she apparently did not throughly checked the supporting work reference documents to see that the work scope matches the role of NOC 0631.

THANKS...what is the cost of living in Edmonton?

Hi!

Here are my two cents, having sp'ent two years in Edmonton I will tell you that if you have an international drivers licence you can get insurance in Edmonton and Calgary, I dont know about other cities, but it will cost you at least 250 CAD per month, my recomendation, take your home country drivers licence, you can use it for three months and get insurance, visit any registries office and do your learners test, with the learners you can get a cheaper insurance, around 220 a month but you can not drive by yourself, you must be accompanied byt a holder of a drivers licence class 5, do your road test and you can drive by yourself paying aroun 180 per month for your insurance, all test have a price, you can get a very good winter car for 4500, I padi 5500 for a cavalier 2003  and it was awesome for winter, in winter time consider special tires for your car ...Smiley

Another thing to consider is what salary to aim for when going out there. Assuming I am doing the same level of software development do I just try to chase my current UK salary converted to CAD?
