Lets Hope Indira ....ND VO will prove to be number One....

regard,
Mayank

Thanks Mayank,

Although this is good news Cool, I am aware of the fact that there are a handful of applicants who received this good news, and few others received the RPRF receipt too, but waiting without a sign of 'DM' or Visa yet Roll Eyes

I hope NDVO keeps up to it's reputation Huh

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

What about Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I thought these are good growing economies and less inflated also.

Just want to know more about these two states if anybody in the Forum can guide me Pl.

Yes, both of them are on the list for us to settle down, but not for LANDING. We would prefer either Toronto or Vancouver because we have friends there. Most of us, specially with kids, would need some external help in a new country for the initial days.

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

That's for a family of how many? 2? 4? etc?

Can't see husband+wife alone needing to spend 800 dollars per month on food! Smiley

I appreciate suggestions from people in Toronto and Vancouver Smiley Or those who have researched on this topic Smiley

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

That has been the question in my mind to. I have not done much research on it, but just asked about three or four people residing in Vancouver and my deduction was a normal initial living is possible with 2000-2500 CAD. It's surprising that the amount is almost the same as TO, or maybe you have considered a higher quality of life in your calculations!
(rent 800 - 1200 / phone 50 / internet 100 / electricity 100 / food 600 or more)

I live in Toronto, what I can tell you about Toronto is:

Rent: for a 1 bedroom condominium=1200-1400 $ (depends on area)
for a 1 bedroom Rental apartment=800-1100 $ (depends on area)
Phone: you can get a pre-paid phone for about 35$/month (depends on what feature you want it goes higher)
Internet: starts from 35$/month (depends on what speed you want it goes higher)
Grocery:  starts from 600$/person (depends what quality you want. If you buy organic it goes higher, and of course you know that for 2 person it's less than double price)
Transportation: If you don't have a car you will spend at least around 100$/month for public transportation (subway, bus, ...). Taxi is expensive. Try to rent somewhere near subway station. It helps a lot.
Utility: Usually it is included in your rental. But you can consider 100$/month.

These are the basic expenses you may have. If you need any specific information please let me know.

Regards
Mari

OK Smiley I think for family of 2 it is much cheaper. On the suburbs of Vancouver can get an apartment with 2 bedrooms (so enough for a guest room) for $600 to $800 per month easily enough.

Thanks for this CB Smiley. But i thought we can get some decent 1 bedroom apartments starting 750CAD in Toronto? Our son is 5 years old and we must be OK in a smaller apartment for the initial months.

Are you sure it will cost up to 800CAD for Indian home cooking?

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Hi Indira,

Oh god no!. It won't definetely cost you $ 800 if you are cooking indian style food. I would say 200 - 300 per person with all five days of meat food. Which is what I am paying now a days but I am 4 hours from toronto and here groceries are little costlier than toronto. But definetely if you are cooking then it would be around 500 for 2 member and for a kid it is highly based what you feed him.

For rent in toronto, my friends live there it is costing them 1100 for 2 bedroom apartment. I know you can get $700 - $800 for a decent 1 bedroom apartment in a decent location as a start.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,

Pradeep

You sure want to start off expensive when you land in Canada.

100 for mobile? 1000-1200 rent? Internet 50? 600-800 food?

Having spent some time in Canada last year, let me assure you that you can find things much cheaper. Just need to find out from people who know.

Your estimates will work better for a family of four.

Wayne.

OK, so in Toronto/Suburbs, for rent it's about 900CAD and the same for Vancouver/Suburbs Smiley. I guess the 2000CAD should work in both places then.

But is there a difference in the pay-scale as the minimum wages are different for both cities?

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.
