I am admited for Postgraduate study program in Canada, and therefore applyted for visa in canadian consulate. however, in addition to general application and requred documents I was asked to provide documents stating the source of founds i have on my account, Does anybody have an idea what that proof can be? how should I document the source if It is my personal and family savings!?

:D iI have applied for study  visa too - it means you have to supply proof of funds to cover the tuition fees - so ask your bank to provide and up to date  bank statement - ok!hilary - you can find me on Hilaryguille @ aol.com Good Luck !

applying for a study permit, how much money I have to show as a proof of financial ability, though in canadian website there has been mentioned that minimum $10,000 i have to show, is it ok or I have to show more.

No - $10K is not enough.

You must show first year tuition for your school + $10K for first year living expenses. Ideally you should also show a few extra thousand dollars to cover travel expenses.
