Hi all,
I wish to apply for Canadian PR under family class from New Delhi. Kindly advice me on the following:
1. How does the immigration dept. notifies that the file has been transfered from Mississauga to New Delhi? Does it appear on the online status check?
2. Can I receive the passport request via email when my passport will be required for the High Commission for stamping.
3. When I receive the passport submission request from High Commission, do I need to submit my passport to VFS or I can send it directly to the High Commission.
4. Can I submit the passport by dropping it to the nearest Canadian embassy or it has to be send via post to New Delhi?
Appreciate your help! Thanks

1. How does the immigration dept. notifies that the file has been transfered from Mississauga to New Delhi? Does it appear on the online status check? A letter is supposed to be sent stating the file has been transferred. ECAS (the online status check) is often not updated. 2. Can I receive the passport request via email when my passport will be required for the High Commission for stamping. It can be sent by email, if you requested them to contact you by email. 3. When I receive the passport submission request from High Commission, do I need to submit my passport to VFS or I can send it directly to the High Commission.
4. Can I submit the passport by dropping it to the nearest Canadian embassy or it has to be send via post to New Delhi? You can't drop off the passport at any embassy - it has to go to the one that will be issuing the visa. And according to Indian law, you are not allowed to send an Indian passport through the mail (including by courier). So you should take your passport to the New Delhi office yourself; or you can mail it to a friend, and have them deliver it.

Thanks Canadianwoman for your reply.
But during my PR processing I will already be in Canada (on TRV). I do have family in Delhi. So it is fine if I post them my passport and they can personally go to the High Comm. to submit it and after processing they can post/courier the passport back to me in Canada? Will there be any issue in posting the Indian passport outside India?
Thanks 1ce again for your kind help!

You are really not supposed to mail an Indian passport. But some people have sent it to a friend or relative in India, who then delivered the passport to the high commission. I think they sent it by courier and tried to conceal it amongst other papers so it wasn't obvious it was a passport.

YOU CAN NOT.This embassy calls for interview after the PPR. You can not leave Canada or travel without a PP, never do that. Manisha - Same answer..

True, if there is an interview, if you've already sent the passport to India you won't be able to go, and if you don't go to the interview the PR visa will be refused for sure. Some people are issued a PR visa without an interview, but I wouldn't count on it. Best to just go back to India and deliver the passport yourself.

Hi All,
I'm applying for PR under family/spouse class from New Delhi. Please advice me on the following:
Can I pay online the "Right to Permanent Residence Fee" along with the "Sponsor Fee" and "Applicant Fee" or the High Commission will explicitly ask for the RPRF at some later stage?
Appreciate your kind help! Thanks

Pay all of the fees now. If you delay paying the RPRF until they ask for it, this will delay the processing of your application.

They will at a later date but it will delay your process by a min 8 weeks. Pay it now.

Wouldn't they ask for Passport after they have decided to interview/waive interview, since Passport is only needed for stamping.

The ppr letter states that they will not mail the passport to any country except India,Nepal and Bhutan..apart from this, the immigration consultant also said I will have to go back for passport submission..if you don't want to do that, you can apply inland, the downside being longer processing rimes and no right of appeal if refused.. Manisha, have u asked CIC call center if you can post it to CHC Delhi? Let us know if they refuse that..

Most countries are like this, but the New Delhi office asks for the passport very early in processing. Definitley not after the interview. So there is a good chance that if you send the passport through the mail to India, and have someone take it to the High Commission, you will then be called for an interview and will not be able to go, because you don't have your passport.

Thanks for your reply. To solve this problem (of passport being with CHC for a long time, disabling my travel on TRV to Canada) can I: 1. Request CHC to let me retain passport till the very end of processing (when they send PP request). OR 2. Request the CHC to return the passport after their initial checking to let me travel. I can it return to them when they finally need it again for stamping.
