Great Syrus....

Yaar mine was 6.5 in Reading..

Rest was ok.. 7.5 ...

Mine was 8 bands in listening, 7 in reading and 6.5 each in speaking and writing(I expected 7 each in S and W). None the less I would be awarded 16 full points for Ielts which was enough for me.........But I guess for average ppl who don't speak much english getting 7 bands in each module is a bit tough.

Though it hardly matters for us now.....we won't be subjected to the new points system.

Jaggy999 you right about people not fluent in English scoring 7 bands in each module.I personally think that this requirement will get lenient with passage of time.
By the Jaggy999,you give good advice, keep it up!

+1 to you bro....I just try to answer to the best of my knowledge.

As per the 7 bands in each module minimum requirement is concerned, I think it would never be lenient. The reasons are outlined below:

"Language competency was considered one of the most critical areas requiring change, as supported by evidence. More aggressive point changes were considered; they would have reduced work experience points by half, thereby giving even more weight to age and language."

The 7 bands in each module is the minimum threshold. Its kind of a benchmark set from now on.

I like the new point system though complex, it is tailor made for Canada's labour market needs Smiley

by the way, someone dreaming off migrant to a country with first language English...should be capable of getting 7 bands in each mod of ielts!! U have to work hard on English to score 7 bands in each, which is worth to get Canadian Immigration...

Mine score was
W-7
R-7
L-8
S-7.5
total bands were: 7.5, though I was in UK for so long, that might have help me to enhance my English. (I took Ielts coaching too), I have done schooling from Public schools in Hindi Medium till 10th standard.

Motive to above statement is, this is not very hard to get 7 bands in ecah module of Ielts if your basic are good/strong!! Go for ielts coaching untill u believe u can get 7 bands in Ielts.

Personally, Babbubhai I don't believe in going to coaching classes. I trained at home. Being a gujju, my pronunciation of some words still sucks . Just some tips for those who would be preparing for Ielts:

  • Try to speak as fluently as possible in front of the mirror. Prepare for basic questions that are most likely to be asked by the Ielts examiner. Read newspaper and try to watch an english movie everyday(helps in listening).
  • Write two essays daily if time permits and ask someone with good English skills to rate it.
  • Speak on current topics for 2-3 minutes in front of mirror. It will help in gaining confidence.
  • Try to work on your weakness and you should be fine.

that's need dedication but someone with a lazy nature (like me) needs classes!! Coz we always think that I will start practice from 2moro and we all knows 2moro never comes!! if by spending some rupees may give u good marks in ielts then go for coaching, rather than suffer later on!! We all have accent and can't get rid off that, being a punjabi I have a EngJabi accent!! ha ha
this is my opinion!!

Rawlinbro my overall ielts score was 7 and I got full 16 points for the first language......

For those who don't know, there is a term used as CLB/NCLC in the link provided by rawlinbro. It means as below:

For the purpose of language proficiency, test result will be matched to the Canadian Language Benchmarks 2000/Niveaux de competence linguistique canadiens 2006 (CLB/NCLC). CIC uses the CLB/NCLC to determine your language proficiency.
The Canadian Language Benchmarks/Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadien are descriptions of language abilities. CIC visa officers use these descriptions to determine your language abilities based results of your English or French language proficiency test.

Revised point system is as below:
IELTS:If you secure 7 bands each in listening, reading, writing and speaking you would get 16 points.
If you secure 8 bands each in listening, reading, writing and speaking you would get 20 points.
If you secure 9 bands each in listening, reading, writing and speaking you would get 24 points.

Age:12 points if you fall in the age group of 21-35. No age points if you are above 47 years.

Work Experience:Reduced to 15 points instead of 21. But the years of exp increased to 6+ instead of 4+.

Education:Education points remain the same.i.e.25. But if you are a graduate you would now be awarded 22 and not 20 points. 23 points for Msc and 25 for Doctorate level.

AEO:Same as 10 points.

Adaptability:Spouse education won't be counted, instead 5 points would be awarded to spouse if he/she scores greater than 4 bands in each LSWR.

Hope this clears everyone's doubt!  Smiley

Nice summary Jigar....+1 to you...and all the best for your MR...Hope you get it soon!

as per new regulation: CLB/NCLC 7 is must, but it doesn't mean 7 each in IELTS. Plz check above table for reference.
I may be wrong, just looking for more clarification.
