Ok. Let's be calm. I actually believe this is good news for US (IN CAPS). Why? Because they will focus on the current applications instead of the new applications from a new MI-5.

That 's true.  Huh

i think they decided to re-open your case because you provided new information which could not have been provided with your initial application (a new relative in canada)...however, i don't think they will give credit if you provide new letters for work experience which you chose not to claim with your initial application...but that's just my take on the whole thing!

I don't know for sure, but it's worth a try. Especially since in OP6b, Section 9.12 says "Officiers must... take into account any years of experience that occur between application and assessment, and for which the applicant has submitted the necessary documentation (R77)"

Hi all,

I plan to send my application soon. I got several questions,
1. Which visa office should I choose? I read several different opinions on this. Should we go with VO in origin country or North American ones. What's the differences between BUFFALO and CPP-O?
2. I've finished three years of my phd study, however I started my phd in US and transferred to Canada on 2010-08-21. Am I eligible to apply under phd stream right now since I've stayed in Canada less than two yr. Will they give me the 5 points for adaptability? It seems more secure to apply on September, but I try to send my docu ASAP since the cap is growing to reach the limit.
3. As for Education/Training/Qualifications-I'm from P.R.China, both my bachelor and master degree are obtained in P.R.China, based on the note under #13 in checklist IMM5612, do I still need to apply for verification of the highest post-secondary degree/diploma (in my case, master) that is obtained in P.R.China if I choose the North American VOs?
4. For Education, does post-secondary education means 6 yrs of middle school and high school? Which means the certificates for both middle school and high school are needed Or only bachelor and master level diplomas/degrees proof documents are required?
5. As for the Settlement Funds, someone in this thread told CAD$11,115 is required for phd stream application. So is it enough to show only the bank letter showing the current balance?
6. What kind of national IDs are you provided? is this a must-provided document? Since I don't have any Canadian national ID, I need to use my Chinese one. And it's kind of annoying to go through the translation and certification procedure since it's not in English.
7. Does a CV or resume need with the application documents?

Sorry for such a long list of questions, I really appreciate if anyone here can help with these.

Maybe you should wait until July when things are getting clearer. Nobody knows what would happen
then. For your long list of questions, just follow the application guide, everything is explained crystal clear in there.
And don't send in documents that are not required on the checking list, such as CV or resume.

I saw people discussing the recent issue, maybe waiting until further release is a good idea. As for my questions, I do have read through the guide carefully, the questions listed are the ones I still not sure about. I really appreciate someone can help with these, especially someone here has similar situation. Thanks a lot for your reply.

You have three options: Beijing, Hongkong, or CPP-O. Buffalo VO has already been closed. I don't know which one is better for you so far.

2. I've finished three years of my phd study, however I started my phd in US and transferred to Canada on 2010-08-21. Am I eligible to apply under phd stream right now since I've stayed in Canada less than two yr. Will they give me the 5 points for adaptability? Ask your school with regard to the education years in Canada.

You should do it accordingly to the newest checklist.

4. For Education, does post-secondary education means 6 yrs of middle school and high school?

Yes.

Which means the certificates for both middle school and high school are needed Or only bachelor and master level diplomas/degrees proof documents are required?

It appears usually only bachelor or above degrees need to get certified English copies. But it's more safe to provide graduation certificates for post-seonary education if you can.

5. As for the Settlement Funds, someone in this thread told CAD$11,115 is required for phd stream application. So is it enough to show only the bank letter showing the current balance?

To minimize the potential delay on processing your case( they may request you to provide 6-month bank acitivity history later if you provide just above the limit funds proof), provide the proof as much money as possible.

6. What kind of national IDs are you provided? is this a must-provided document? Since I don't have any Canadian national ID, I need to use my Chinese one. And it's kind of annoying to go through the translation and certification procedure since it's not in English.

Try to get a local driver's license if you don't want to get your Chinese SHENFENZHENG certified.

7. Does a CV or resume need with the application documents?

No.

Sorry for such a long list of questions, I really appreciate if anyone here can help with these.

Eventhough there hasn't been a formal announcement on the CIC website regarding the freeze on FSW applications, it seems that they have already updated their instruction guide!!...so only the Ph.D stream and people with a job offer are eligible to apply..

The temporary pause on FSWP applications does not apply to candidates with offers of arranged employment or those applying under the PhD eligibility stream. The full set of Ministerial Instructions will be available online in the Canada Gazette tomorrow.

If we read the entire article it is clear that it doesn't apply to us.

This is good news for everyone. It allows them to eliminate the backlog, and to speedup future processing next year. I think people that apply next year will get everything done in 8 months, maybe less, because everything will much more focused in Canada's need. Of course, some people will become ineligible, but it's life..
