Unfortunately I was unable to persuade them. The best I could do is to ask them write an email explaining the policy, which I mailed to CIC later.
If CIC is still unsatisfied with that, I will not meet the minimum one year requirement. Then the best thing I could hope for is to get my PR application fee refunded ($1100 for me and my spouse).
Finger crossed!

phdapplicant, did you also include TA/RA experience (including duties and responsibilities)? As you are probably aware, TA/RA non-taxable work experience is accepted (at least for PER), so even if you did not get credited for previous work experience, 2 years of TA/RA should be enough to give you the equivalent of 1,950 hours. Since we have also confirmed that all PhD stream applicants would be awarded the 5 adaptability previous study points, then you should have enough points with just TA/RA (assuming, of course, you get enough points for IELTS + education, and you are under 35 years of age).

Thanks for your advice, asbereth. I did include my TA/RA too. It's my last line of defense Smiley

Hi guys,

I really appreciate this forum for providing me so many useful information for my PhD immigration application. I just got PER today.

Application package send on April 20, 2012
Credit card charged on: April 30, 2012
PER received on May 7, 2012

My status: 1) 4th-year PhD student
               2) one applicant
               3) claimed only RA work experience (current PhD program) (more than 2-year less than 3-year), got a letter from the department, stated main responsibilities, annual salary (scholarship), weekly working hour (22.5hours/week), total hours (4300 hours up until now), plus T4A, university payroll slip (printed a few months)
               4) no TA work experience, no related work experience in Canada or back in home country before

Good luck to everyone:)

Hi,

I thought to start a thread for international student applicants who are enrolled in a PhD program in Canada (or graduated from a Canadian PhD program) and filed Immigration Application after 5 Nov, 2011, so it  can be a help for people to talk about immigration updates during the process.

Let us share the story, explain what you upto during your wait.  Also post your current timeline so we can have an idea of each other progress and lets help each others. I can create an excel database of the applicant's various data once we receive some applicants.

Stay Happy and hopeful!

Snow_Walker

PS: I will be applying myself probably within next 1 month and will share my timeline right after filing the application. If you are going to file your application may be in next 1/2/3 months, share that here. Let's make a journey together.

If you properly documented your hours and responsibilities for RA/TA, then you should be fine Smiley They should make the PhD stream a category under CEC actually, to make things easier. It's unfortunate that it took them a while to issue you a PER, if only they would notice that all PhD stream applicants (provided that you have enough IELTS scores + and a Master's degree + funded) should have more than 67 points, even without any other work experience.

Just give it a time. You should receive your PER soon. Lately, some straightforward applications got their PER's a day after their credit card got charged, but some others require longer time. If you submitted everything as required (and I'm assuming you have the 'good academic standing' note on your letter of attestation from graduate studies office, not department?), you should expect to receive the PER email soon. Good luck Smiley

Hi asbereth,
according to the CIC website "In process" status should be available after getting the mail of PER. you can check the link
oops..it says I am not allowed to post links..

So, I was confused if my status shows in process why I have not received any email ??
thnx..

Can someone share again here the link to check the eCas and also confirm if the checking the status using UCI# should be in the format of xxxx-xxxx ?
Also for those who can access their eCas status, can you also use your Application number to check? Does that work too?

You can check status on CIC website page 'check application status'. The client ID should be in the format xxxxxxxx. It will also accept the Immigration file number / application number as identification type.
