My situation is I am a senior analyst for one of Canada big five banks. It is a decent job and I am happy with my work. However, my PGWP will expire soon and I have just submitted my CEC application recently.  I need to extend my Work permit!!! LMO seems to be the only option but I have kindly asked my HR and she gave me some negative feedback like we haven't done that before or it cannot be done on her level.

I would like to ask and see anyone who worked for the big financial institutions has their employer helped them applying for LMO or PNP. And what is your experience on this matter. I hope everyone could help me on this.

The OP is NOT under implied status just because s/he applied for CEC.  Implied status is when you have applied for either visitor/work/study permit from Vegreville and you are awaiting their reply.

The big banks usually aren't willing to apply for an LMO for these types of roles because they know from past experiences that the LMO will not be approved. As part of the LMO process, they must first advertise the job and try to fill the open role with a Canadian. For roles such as analysts/senior analysts - banks typically receive a high number of applications from Canadians. This means these roles don't meet the criteria for an LMO.

If I were in your shoes, I would ask HR one more time if there's anything they can do. However don't be surprised if they refuse again.

Just got a postive feedback from HR. They told me they will apply for LMO, because recently there are lots people requested for that under PGWP. Normally they will hire a independent consultant for doing this. The only concern is who will pay for the cost.

at least is a good news for people like me.

Hi Prilo, this is a month late from the last response, but in any case....

I am in a similar situation with one of the 5 big banks.  HR said they would help me but they engaged my manager and basically made her fill out the LMO application....  to which my manager asked me to help with.

I got the positive LMO response within 2-3 weeks and I just applied for the work permit last month online.

Hi Jitu1011,

Were you able to get any information on your query from August?  It's almost January 2012, just wondering what the progress has been?  I will be in a similar situation soon, as my work permit expires June 2012, but my PR application has yet to be fully processed yet.

Please let me know if you have any updates to your status.

Guys,

I have the same situation, my Post graduate work permit will expired in mid july and i am still waiting for my 1 year working experience to be fulfilled to apply for my permanent residency under CEC.

I work in one of the big 5 bank as a Financial Service Representative/ Financial Advisor, i heard from some cases that HR from the bank do not going to help you with the LMO.

I am worry that my PR yet still in process and i can't get an LMO and have to leave the company.

Anybody can share their experience.

Thank you

In most cases the big 5 banks are not willing to apply for an LMO. If you are going to be needing an LMO within the next six months, I would start taking to your manager and HR now.

Hi,

I was refused for the LMO as Bank (T.L and Her boss) said I am on contract through Manpower (Freaking idiots) and they Manpower simply said no..
I read it on HRSDC website job agencies are not eligible to apply LMO as employer.

I got LMO under diff NOC from different employer (Restaurant) I was force to do that as need a job to support my expenses, I will be filing PR soon.

 @ Jitu1011

I'm on the same situation like working for a bank as a programmer , through an employment agency and the bank is not ready to submit for LMO. My work permit is going to expire in May 2012

Is there any way to stay here in Canada?

How could you managed to extend your work permit?

How you got a LMO under diff NOC from different employer (Restaurant)?

Thanks,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vikas,

It will be much easier for you if you can shift from job agent pay roll to your banks pay roll (Doesn't Matter if it is a temporary contract job), because it is much easier to convince your boss to sign LMO application. The Job agencies are not eligible as they are not employer. I will suggest you to change job instead to an organization who can provide you offer letter and CRA# and rest you need nothing from employer.

I tried my luck by joining an Indian Restaurant as part time job and explained owner my situation, he co-operated me and we succeeded in achieving positive LMO, I qualify 67 points for PR and will be moving back to home country India and then file for PR.

My experience (May be my luck), i am in canada for 3years now worked at several places, people are not trustworthy and system does not allow immigrants to grow unless they do some great business. I will try my fortune with all best efforts in India, now after such experience it is understood does not matter we run for Dollar's but stress is more than any opportunity we can explore.

Take Care!
