We just moved here in July.  Hubby got a job right away and I havent started looking yet.  Too busy unpacking.  We are in the Ajax area.  I have found things here pretty expensive compared to where we lived in Arizona for 14 years.
Will probably start job hunting next week as we need 2 incomes.  I have family throughout Ontario so they have helped out alot.  No friends yet though.

I'm also in the Etobicoke/Mississauga area. Without working or going to school, it's definitely hard to meet people, but luckily my husband's friends have some amazing wives and girlfriends, so that's been a bit of a way to get some friends. I'm always up for meeting new people though, especially those who I have something in common with!

I live in Mississauga (close to Etobicoke) as well and moved here from my hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. I too have found it difficult to make friends though I have lots of acquaintances now. When I first came here as a visitor I found meetup.com. Joining meetup is free though some activities have a fee associated with them. I joined a monthly book club, then another, a dancing group because my partner likes to dance, and tennis group and the Toronto Ex-patriot American group. The ex-pats are getting together on Tuesday (a small group for dinner - Southern BBQ) and then another group around 8:30 for drinks. Check it out if you're interested. http://www.meetup.com/The-Toronto-Expat-American-Meetup-Group/

There is also an ex-pat group on Facebook that gets together. That group is called Americans in Toronto Facebook Club http://www.facebook.com/groups/10418461332/

I'm a Torontonian trying to sponsor my spouse into US.  I'm in the US now for the past decade and I MISS Toronto!!  The last time I went there to visit was 2 years ago.  I have family and friends there still.  I miss all the good food!!  Just thinking about living there and getting to eat all the foods I crave over here that I can't get...like good poutine, jerk chicken, jamaican beef patties, great chinese food, etc...the list can go on and on.  I hope soon we'll be living there again.  I haven't submitted our application yet...I think in a few months.

I'm near Toronto and I also volunteer. Still hard to meet people here.. meeting people in Argentina is much easier! It's a bit frustrating!!

I am also from Argentina and I am planning to move to Toronto this summer. We thought of moving to North York or Richmond Hills. How do you find this areas?? Thank you

Richmond Hill is a pretty nice area, we moved here in the Summer. Its not too far from the city, about 40 mins drive, 25 if traffic is good. I get the GO train into Toronto everyday for work.
You get a lot more space for the same money in Toronto.
It is very popular with Chinese and Russian communities.

Hi everyone!
I'm also living in Toronto area, North York. I landed March 10, 2011, came with huuby and 5 year old kid. But no family of friends. Yes It gets lonely sometimes not having friends or family to visit or just call someone, right? But I do hope I can find some good friends to enjoy my living in Toronto. It is hard to meet new people. I recently started working but I get the feeling that everyone 's got their busy lifes and schedules already I'm just the newby. Although everyone is so nice to me. Let's wait and see what happens. But even I feel lonely sometimes Toronto is a beautiful place.
