Hi everyone, My wife and I are debating whether or not to apply for a TRV so she can visit for a while while we wait for the PRV approval.
I know that the chance of getting a TRV is low, due to the concerns Immigration will have regarding whether my wife will return on expiry of the visa.
It seems to me though it is worth trying, because the cost is low, compared to the benefits of having her here.
My wife, and several other recent immigrant asian friends I have talked to, feel that a failed TRV will negatively impact the success or the timing of the PRV.
I can't see why it would make a difference. The criteria for approval of the TRV and PRV are very different. The most likely reason for rejection of the TRV (insufficient ties to home) is irrelevant with a PRV.
I'm interested if anyone can comment on this, based on their own experience, or can reference any other threads that provide information on this subject.
Thanks.

It will have no effect, they expect and most people have tried to get the TRV failed applied for the PR and success.I think they would see it a bit strange if one of you didnt try to come see the other.I think if you ask most people on here they either tried or their spouse has tried for a TRV.

So that has no bearing either.Your fine.As i stated a lot of people have tried before and during it is a 95% rate it will be refused even if you have a PR in progress unless your from the US.

Since you have already sent the PR application in, applying for a TRV won't make any difference. Having applied for a TRV before you apply for a PR visa will make a difference, and the more TRVs you have applied for, the worse. If the visa officer processing your PR application sees that you have applied for several TRVs to Canada, and have also tried to get a study visa, and have made similar applications for other Western countries, and all have been refused, then yes, this will have a negative impact on your PR application. This is not your wife's situation, so she should be OK. The TRV application will probably be refused, though.

Hi, As mentioned, applying for a TRV will not affect your PR application. In your case, I think you should cite "Dual Intent". This simply means that your wife has applied for PR but would also like to visit you at the same time. But I should mention that getting a TRV while being processed for PR is very difficult. Check this post from toby. He's basically in the same situation as you. Her wife's being processed for PR and she applied for a TRV but got refused. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t46457.0.htmlLike any TRV application, your wife still needs to prove that she will leave after the extent of her visit. Think of it this way - if she gets refused, well hey, it's only $75! If she gets approved then congratulations!! Good Luck!!

Hello. Im in a similar situation as you, I want to apply for TRV to go visit my hubby while we wait for the PR. As other people has said I dont believe it will affect negatively on the PR if TRV gets denied, I think it will just show that we are trying to be together. I know that is not easy to get the TRV but I´ve also heard of many cases that people gets it so I will apply for it once we get the sponsorship approval from the PR. What I´ve read on older post about this topic is that it is very important the way you word the Invitation letter (letter on intent), you really need to show that you understatnd the PR process and you just want to have the chance to spend some time with your spouse. Below you can find a link to an older post, Check what reply#7 from FROLIC said...its very helpful and gave me hope. He mentioned 3 importat things to include in the letter: Mention the PR and Sponsorship. Provide as detailed a visit plan as possible in the letter. Mention she will return to continue the PR application process. He also said..."if she comes to visit now and overstays you would just be screwing up your PR application. Who would be dumb enough to do that?" Which is true and we should let VO know that we are not planing in overstaying.... http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t34608.0.htmlGood luck!

Thanks all.... I really appreciate the time you've taken to respond, and provide advice. Galmxcan: I'd be interested to hear how you make out, if you go ahead and submit the TRV application. Likewise, I'll let you know how things go for us, if we proceed.

Hi Toby,
Yes.....I know the odds are slim, regardless of how much information is provided. It sounds from your post, that you applied for the TRV after the PRV was in progress. Is that true?
Was the reason for denial the usual one of "insufficient ties to home country"?
Thanks....

Galmxcan, You might want to wait until your PRV sponsorship is approved before your wife applies for the TRV. It seems to me, that she will be in a stronger position at that point.
Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read that, and nobody else has commented on it in this thread.
It seems to me that successful sponsorship at least shows that you are serious about the relationship and qualify to sponsor; therefore you are more likely to be in a position to support your wife when she visits.
Best of luck. I'll let you know too, if my wife decides to apply for the TRV.
