Another Nexus question

So, I was wondering.

I am an American citizen and I wanted to get a Nexus pass, but the thing is, I was once refused entry at the Canadian border.  The reason was because they said I did not have sufficient ties to the states to prove that I intended to come back.

Well since then, my husband and I have applied for PR and I was approved, I plan on landing next week.  I wonder what the chances are, after I land, of getting a Nexus pass?

Wow they are a bit on the defensive side at the border these days....even with american citizens?
i'm italian(no visa requested) and i entered the montreal airport in june 2010 as a tourist and clearly said to the officer that i didn't intend to go back (for now), i didn't have a return ticket and they let me in....
I'm sorry mine was just a comment i don't know about the nexus pass....

Iamrobot: I'm pretty sure that you'd be approved with no problem.  Having PR means that there's no onus on you to leave Canada, ever.  If that was the one and only reason they denied you entry, you should be fine.

I have the same situation. I have completed the application for Nexus, but have not yet certified it. On the question "Have you ever been found in violation of customs or immigration laws or other federal import laws?" I answered yes. In the explanation I said I think this applies and then mentioned once being refused entry for lack of ties to the US. I also had pepper spray in my car (I did not know it was illegal in Canada) at this time which was confiscated and destroyed. I mentioned this as well.

My partner says I should have answered no, because I was not "found in violation" but I figured full disclosure is better and let them make the decision if this is an issue for approving the application.

I don't know how long it takes to process the Nexus app. But I will try to remember to post when I get a decision.

It took two and a half weeks for my application to be processed. Then I had to attend the interview to finalize everything.

However that was 2-3 years ago. So I don't know if waiting times have changed.

You will love it once you have it.

What you described in your post is not "being found in violation of" -- you have been denied entry, and you did have a banned substance, but there was no intent, just lack of knowledge.

Being found in violation would have been some sort of smuggling or illegal entry / overstay, for which you were caught and prosecuted.

Was your application accepted?  How did you answer the question about the violation of customs or immigration laws or other federal import laws in regards to the pepper spray?  Did it cause any issues?
