Although the above posts were published in 2009, but the truth and reality described in them prevails in 2011 also. To find a good job really needs lot of patience and hard work , everybody have to thoroughly do his homework, (research your jobs through Internet, talk to your future employers on phone, email your resumes to as many as companies you like, get your educational and professional experience documents verified for credit transfers (after landing), contact your friends, relatives or any abc person living in Canada to help you in finding a job, because here most employers ask for a local reference. Convert your resumes to new Canadian format of resumes (everything is available on the internet) prepare yourself for  interviews , because you wont' get as many chances of your choice. No work is small , so grab whatever opportunity strikes you. Doing work is important rather than sitting idle and cursing your destiny. Immediately after landing join a local trade oriented or job oriented (whatever your job is )course from a reputed college in Vancouver, there are so many career colleges who specialize in providing courses to cater the local market . Getting a local diploma/degree or certificate course will definitely boost your chance to get a job here. Duration of these courses varies from 1 week to depending upon your need and job and conduct evening classes also. Wise people say : there is no age to learn. So be prepared to learn according to the Canadian system, to become a successful Canadian citizen. Your future generations are going to thank you million times for providing them the highest standard of living.
Last word..don't loose your heart, be calm and relaxed, throw away all the stress and depression, you are going to live in one of the best countries in the world...and that's CANADA...!

Did u hear-"success resuts from efforts", one year in Canada and almost everyone around me got good job. So, I would not subscribe to the storyline that there are no jobs in Canada. Getting a job is by way of competition, even locals face significant amount of barriers to employment, not just immigrants.
I have no suggestion to make to those  people  who always complain without making significient efforts in right direction. Failure await them on every turn. Cowards look for excuses. What is wrong in driving taxi, truck, factory job etc till one finishes one's bridging program?
Anyone who have zeal to improvise, work hard and stay positive, welcome to Canada and be assured good life is waiting for you.

Yes dear, you are absolutely right. I second you. Since I have landed I have seen many people, who has degress and experience from back home, but don't know what should be done to get job in their field. Some of them send ton's of generic resumes (not even canadian way)to employers, no interview skills, no knowledge of what is needed in Canadian job market. They are just wasting their energy in wrong direction.

I agree that the number of jobs are less and there are plenty applicants behind few jobs. However, if you present yourself by professional(Canadian way) you can win this competition and get through. But remember, winning here is not that much easy and not very difficult either.you shuold plan you moves very carefully even before landing here.
