All my family wants to move to canada

I married 4 years a go an american. My family resides right now in the US.   I am canadian by birth and both of my children were born in the US.  My kids and I have dual citizenship.  Now my husband is an american citizen only.  We want to move to canada in late February. Should we put the paperwork in the US is we want to move in 2 months or do it once in canada? He has no criminal background.  Can you please let me know how long it would take for him to get his permanent residency and when can he applied for a temporary working permit?  I am concern about having to get health care for my husband.  Can he get health care with a temporary workign permit?  How expensive is health care in canada?  We are planning to move to Vancouver.  Thank you for your time.  Patty

It sounds to be as though a sponsorship could be the best route for you and your husband. Although having this completed in two months will require a small miracle.

Does your husband have a job offer in Canada? It may be possible to obtain a temporary working visa whilst the sponsorship application is underway.

I'm not sure how much medical care is in Canada as I've not arrived yet. However, I have been advised that Provincial medical care can take up to three months to be processed (depending on Province) and therefore it is advisable to either take temporary cover or wait and see what is included work benefits. You need to sponsor your husband for permanent residency in Canada.  You can either start it before you move but then you have to convince immigration that you are actually planning on moving when he gets his PR or you can start it after you are already in Canada.  It may take 7 or 8 months for him to get PR and until then, he can be in Canada as a tourist, not allowed to work and no health care unless he has private insurance.  It's possible that he can get a work permit on his own a bit faster than that depending on what he does.
