Hi

I apologise in advance if I am posting in the wrong forum, but I had a question regarding work.

After landing in Canada, do I need to wait for a social security no. to come through before applying for jobs?

Or can I start job hunting as soon as I land?

Thanks

Well you can walk in to any Service Canada office with your proof of "landing" and get you SIN in about 10 minutes.  The actual card will take about 10 days to come in the mail.  Most employers will need the SIN if they hire you for EI/TAX/CPP.

Yes, you can do your job-hunting and even apply for jobs even if you don't have your SIN yet. Employers should not refuse an application if a SIN is not given, however I'd suggest that you mention in your application that the SIN will be submitted when available. The SIN is required to record your income tax deductions, etc.

You can refer to this for more info: http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/protect/provide.shtml

Yes, when you become a PR you change your card from the temp one "9" to a permanent no. at Service Canada.

As it appears you will be landing inland, you will need your PR card.
