Is there a way, whereby one could complete the landing in a couple of days and deaprt Canada before getting the PR card? Is there any 'travel document' one could apply for in lieu of the PR card?

Yes you can leave Canada before getting your PR Card. You can apply for a Travel document (PRTD) in lieu of PR Card,  to the Canadian Mission where you are residing. For more explanation read this :
