I would be extremely grateful for some advice please. I have an Inland Application for Permanent Residency, I have been sponsored by my common law partner. CIC began processing my case on the 23rd of June 2009. Unfortunately one of my parents had a serious accident in England that required emergency attendance and treatment following admission to hospital. I flew home on the 2nd of November for that reason and now I intend to fly back to Canada on the 18th of November.

I wanted to ask should I have a return flight to England to show that I will leave Canada if I don't receive PR. I would prefer to just get a one way flight, as I am confident I will recieve PR, as my lawyer has informed me I have a strong application.

Thank you for your time.

you don't need any return flight, as you have inland application. just explain to them at border the reason why you left Canada. there will be no problem for you to enter.
good luck!

Do you have any evidence to show you applied? A copy of the receipt maybe? It might help.

Thank you for your replys. I have a copy of my receipt, a print out from Ecas too. Apparently I can just give the CBSA officer my client ID number too. I have a letter from my father and the hospital.

there definitely shouldn't be any problem for you. they will easily be able to get info about you in their database using your receipt number or client id.

Do you have legal status is Canada?  If not you MAY have an issue as PR is not YET granted or approved.

The officer might not be interested on why you left. Best not to present the letters from your father and the hospital when not asked for. Their interest would be why you are coming back. So proof of your application might help. There is also a possibility that if and when they let you in, you'll be given a visitor record that you were not given before.

Well I am coming back to finish my PR application, so I would always tell the officer the truth, but I would assume this was obvious being an inland application. I have been out of status in Canada, when my work visa expired I understood I wasn't allowed to work, but I had no idea I had to be on a visitor visa. I spoke to my lawyer and he said if I explained the circumstances it shouldn't be a problem. Also being from a visa exempt country he said should work in my favor. Thanks again for your advice.

Hi,

How's the "border interrogation" Smiley  Hope you're able to get back to Canada without any hassles.
