What is customary in Vietnam for foriegners living and working there? I have resided in Dominican Republic for 2 years and many foriegners do have permanent residency, but the majority do not. It is fine in DR for a forigner to work without residency or a work permit. There are people that stay here their entire lives working, etc, and it's not a problem. My boss (director of a school) has been living and working in DR without any visa or residency for 6 years. It's not a problem here- The government doesn't care. They have set up a fee system in the airports based on the length of time one has been here. You simply pay a fee when you are leaving in the airport for the amount that you stayed over the initial 30 day tourist card that all foriegners are given. It is not even considered a fine. A fee. I have traveled back and forth many times between Canada and Dominican Republic and just pay the fee when I leave. I often will return around 2 weeks later (as DR is my home for now) and there are no problems. No problems asked... So what I'm saying is, if the same is customary in Vietnam, then you shouldn't have a problem working while you are there. However, if this is a problem in Vietnam, then I too would advise against it unless you obtain a work visa.
Well it depends...the "official" policy is that foreigners requires a work permit but in practice must don't have one. Anyway I think it's better that I do not work in Vietnam. thanks for the advice!
