Absence during co-habitation

I was away from Canada and my sponsor for about five weeks due to the illness, death and funeral of my grandfather and I've been told that absence is acceptable in cases of family illness. What I have is to prove this is the obituary of my grandfather and his funeral ceremony programme, but they're all in Swedish.

My questions are: a) Whether you think this is proof enough
                         b) If said papers need to be officially translated (dates and names are easily read regardless)

Yes and yes.  It may not be necessary to have them translated but why take the chance.  If I were you, I would do it.  A copy of your return ticket or boarding passes could help too.

Ok, thanks. I don't have any tickets or boarding passes left, but I'll try to have the papers translated.
