Using the self-assesement test on http://www.cic.gc.ca/ I've worked out my points to be as follows:

20  Education
16  Language Ability
15  Work Experience
10  Age
0    Arranged Employment
4    Adaptability

Total Score  =   65

I have a few options on how to get some extra points but I really want to emigrate with my long-term girlfriend to Canada as soon as possible!  Can anyone please offer some advice?

1. Firstly...  I only have 1 year of 'full-time' work experience in an IT job, although I've been teaching computing at University for the past 2-3 years (but only on a sessional basis), and I am currently self-employed as an IT Consultant/Software Engineer (and have been for the past 2 years) - can I count any of this as addidtional work experience, or can I only claim 1 year?

2. Myself and girlfriend are currently completing Masters degrees - can we claim any points for these until they're completed?

3. I have probably almost got Basic proficiency in French, so should I learn some more, take the TEF test and get my 2 points here?  If so, how long does this take, and how much would it cost?

4. Getting a Canadian job offer would give me 10 points, but I doubt a Canadian employer would want to go through the wait and hassle involved...  am I being overly pessemistic?  If so, where should I best look for employment?

Any advice offered would be warmly welcomed.  I hope you can help.

Thanks,
Richard

:) True it is best you make up the points, if you go through the forum I saw where it is written to take a french course to make it up..it gives the site where to take this...

Take the TEF and boost  your points.  I did the same and scored 6points on 8 for second language.
