Hi All,

I am starting this thread in attempt to gather all of those who are in process of canadian immigration under NOC 0213 "Computer and Information Systems Managers". The purpose is to discuss how we can increase our chances getting a job once we get there. Because guys lets face it, most of us won't be getting an IT Manager position right away. We have to fall back to our primary skills e.g. software development, database admin. , network admin. etc.

The idea is to identify the certifications that are in demand in canada and to try to achieve those certifications along with our preparation for immigration. Any input especially from the guys who are already in canada and knows IT industry will be greatly appreciated. I am listing some certifications, what you guys think of their value in canadian job environment

PMP
ITIL
CISSP

Microsoft Certfications

Try to become member of this society, it may add some value to the resume. It cost under $175

Other certification based on individual's core area will always be helpful.

Dear OK,

While in Canada it's good to have one of these. An ISP and/or ITCP are quite well taken/respected here. It shows one's genuine progress in ur industry & adds value to ur professionalism.

I'm not an IT guy by profession, but am quite an IT savvy pax from another industry. I've been to Canada on business scores of time and in our profession too guys are sporting these 2 quals, more specifically the ISP. I'm already a member of CSIS-Ca and shall be acquiring the ISP too shortly.

Hope that helps.

omm,
we are talking here to make our profile more sellable in canada IT mkt  and not how to increase our chances in CIO/CIC phase.
As mentioned by some members get certifications etc.. and so i suggested to go over CIPS (computer society) and it is well known betn clients and companies so this may help to give some pref  ( though its all your luck.. )

Go-over CIPS website and you will find its just not some cultural prog society, it gives you some designations ( based on exam, education, exp)which are known by companies in canada, at the end its just one side there may be 100 of such courses, exams or societies which can be helpful. As you have mentioned that you were/are member of AIESEC so this may turn to be some help for you.

I have read Josh's post here and also I know people who got job quickly without experiencing bitter side of the game.. so its all time and luck.

Thanx for your replys guys.

@ omm   as pv correctly stated, the idea is to boost our chances once we land in canada. CIO or CHCs does not appear to care about your professional excellence once you meet the minimmum criteria.

@ pv I went through CIPS site. Appears to be helpful but in criteria, I noticed they require canadian reference to approve the application. How one can get that from outside canada. I wished it would more be like ACS (Australian Computer Society)

Dear yesIcan,

I'm not sure. As I said, I'm from another industry, but IT savvy. In our cases, lots of us do get ISP and/or ITCP from CIPS.

Regards.

From the software testing background, there are certifications like:

ISTQB
CSTP

which can help one add tuppence to their respective resumes.
