Canada Immigration Attorney David Cohen
I remember, as a child, the sadness in my grandfather as he recounted his sister's plight. From the safety of Canada, in the late 1930s, he did everything in his power to get his sister out of Poland ahead of the Nazis. He managed to get her to England on a temporary visa while he begged Canadian immigration authorities to allow him to sponsor her to Canada. His plea fell on deaf ears. Canada had by then slammed its doors on fleeing European Jews. England sent her back to Poland when her visa expired. She was never heard from again.
Her story never left me. From this arose the compelling desire to make a new start in Canada possible for others. This is the reason I became an Immigration lawyer and why I feel so strongly about what I do.
I graduated from Montreal's McGill Faculty of Law in 1972, and shortly thereafter I became a member of both the Quebec and Canadian Bar Associations. I started my own practice in 1976, just when the Canadian government was radically changing its immigration laws and policies. I decided the timing was right to make Immigration law my area of expertise. Now a senior partner at the long established Canadian immigration law firm Campbell Cohen, I have been plying my trade for over 25 years. In 1994, I became one of the first lawyers to offer a full range of Canadian immigration services to prospective immigrants and foreign temporary workers over the Internet. Today, the firm's website canadavisa.com is widely recognized as the legal profession's most comprehensive electronic source of information on Canadian immigration.
